Where to begin. . .

Well, another school year is SLOWLY coming to a close. Only 5 more Mondays and summer will be here, but those are going to be some jam packed weeks. Several days of testing, prom, senior trip, TABC conference, athletic banquet and of course graduation. I must say it has been a very demanding year, but through it all God has truly blessed my family.
This year started with a very promising girls cross country team that got edged out at the regional meet. However, we had an individual state qualifier that made an amazing showing in Round Rock. This was also my inaugural season as the boys head basketball coach here at Tarkington High School. It was a season filled with ups and downs and laden with injuries, but it was highlighted with some key wins on the road against Huffman and Cleveland. The first time in quite a while that we have squeaked out a win against the Indians on their home turf.
In other news Rachel was selected as Teacher of the Year at the high school and will log her 5th year of employment as a Tarkington Longhorn. She still struggles to wear a "longhorn"' out in public seeing as we both graduated from Texas A&M, but it is becoming easier as the days go by.
We also have a few projects going on around the house that have been in the works for a long time. Rachel would say it is typical for me to take years to complete a project, but there is finally a little light at the end of the tunnel. The concrete guy should be here Wednesday to pour our patio in the backyard and Thursday should mark the completion of our backyard fence, including a solar powered gate opener. Some people might not understand our excitment about having a fully enclosed backyard, but I assure you if you spent an afternoon locked inside with a 37 lb ball of energy, we like to call Maddie, you would be ecstatic about having a place for her to play. (Pictures to follow soon!)
I think I have hit the high points of our recent happenings. Rachel would probably do a much better job and I am sure she will add some things when she has time, but being Teacher of the Year doesn't leave much free time ;-) Besides Rachel seems to think that I have a calling for writing (even though I hated it in school) and that it helps me relieve tension. I guess we shall see.
