Wow! I don't even know where to begin. Our life has literally been turned upside down over the past couple of weeks. I can't even begin to fully grasp everything that has happened. So, here it goes...
Andy found out a couple of weeks ago that he was not going to be the boys' basketball coach anymore. It was a huge blow. I mean, really? Why not? The excuse of not winning enough games is a lousy one since our football team has won only 6 games in the last four years. And the head football coach isn't going anywhere... Andy was given the option of just coaching cross country and track. Well, that's not going to work for him. The whole reason Andy got into education was because he wanted to coach basketball. If you take that away from him, then he might as well start looking for another profession. And that's exactly what we're doing... sort of.
A new profession isn't totally correct. Andy is still going to stay in education at the moment. The golfing industry is still option and still something he is working towards, but it may be delayed for the time being. However, we can't stay at our current school. There are too many changes taking place that we don't want to be a part of. And unfortunately, we have been unhappy at our current school for quite a while now.
I have been wanting to move closer to my mom and step-dad for the past few years. A three and a half hour drive is just fun, and I probably visit them at most six times a year which is not near enough. Andy and I have been talking about possibly moving to the Katy area for the past six months. He was looking for potential golf jobs in that area. We will probably never move from the Houston area mostly because we want to stay close to Andy's parents as well and his dad must be within an hour of the medical district due to his chemo treatments.
So, we began the application process for Katy ISD. Andy submitted his cover letter and resume to several of the coaches who had basketball (girls or boys) positions open. He heard back almost immediately from the girls head coach at Katy Taylor HS. She emailed him back and said that they would be conducting interviews the next week. Well, she forgot that TAKS testing was this past week, so she called him Monday for a phone interview instead. The phone interview went extremely well!! Andy was very pumped up after he got off the phone. He said it was so nice for someone to actually want him as a coach on their staff. The next day he received a more formal email that requested an interview with one of the assistant principals and the head coach for Friday.
We both took off of work on Friday because we figured it couldn't hurt to look at some houses for sale in the area... just in case. Andy had told the head coach the number one reason he wouldn't take the job would be if I couldn't find a teaching job. She said that Katy ISD was a tough district to get a job in but that they were family-friendly.
I have more to write, but we are not ready to share everything yet. So, you'll have to bear with me like this is a suspense novel or something.
How sucky... but look at it as a great opportunity to do something much better. Good luck to both of you as you look for jobs! Text if something great happens!
